Tooth Extractions in Gaithersburg, MD
At Schneider Family Dentistry, we always prioritize saving natural teeth whenever possible. However, when extraction is necessary, Dr. Adam Schneider, Dr. Katie Staub, or Dr. Thomas Tran performs the procedure gently and efficiently, ensuring your comfort throughout the process and promoting optimal healing.
When is Tooth Extraction Necessary?
Tooth extraction may be recommended when a tooth is severely decayed beyond repair, fractured or broken beyond restoration, affected by advanced gum disease, causing crowding or alignment issues, impacted and unable to erupt properly, or infected with an abscess that can't be treated with root canal therapy. We'll always discuss all treatment options before recommending extraction.
The Extraction Process
Before your extraction, we'll numb the area thoroughly to ensure you're comfortable. For simple extractions, we gently loosen the tooth and remove it. For surgical extractions, we may need to make a small incision or section the tooth for easier removal. Throughout the procedure, we'll check to ensure you're not experiencing discomfort.
After Your Extraction
- Bite on Gauze - Apply pressure to control bleeding
- Avoid Straws - Suction can dislodge the blood clot
- Soft Foods - Stick to soft diet for a few days
- Gentle Cleaning - Avoid the extraction site when brushing
- Ice Packs - Reduce swelling with cold compresses
